Wicked Headlines 2008–2009 Season
This week the Civic Center announced the 2008-2009 Willis Broadway Series. The season opens in September with the drama Frost/Nixon which accounts David Frost’s interview with former President Nixon. In January, the Tony Award® winning musical Spring Awakening brings its fusion of morality and rock & roll followed by the stage adaptation of Legally Blonde which promises “feel-good song and dance.” In April, Oprah Winfrey presents The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the film by Steven Spielberg. And for four weeks the following September the Tony Award® winning Wicked lands in Des Moines. This Wizard of Oz-prequel weaves the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch into the most spellbinding new musical in years. Adams Wins New Volvos for the Rest of Her Life
On March 19, Volvo celebrated the winning heroes of the Volvo for life Awards including Earlham’s own Marilyn Adams at a gala event in New York City. There it was announced that Marilyn, in addition to winning the Safety category, was also the grand award winner. In recognition of her accomplishments she will receive a $100,000 charitable contribution and a new Volvo every three years for the rest of her life. After a tragic farm accident claimed the life of her 11-year-old son, Marilyn founded Farm Safety 4 Just Kids, a non-profit organization focused on farm safety education.
